I've no idea how to compare SEEK in VFP with EXISTS in Sql Server. All I can say, that with EXISTS Sql Server doesn't select all records, that satisfied specified conditions, but looks for the first one only, which makes it vary close to the SEEK. You can emulate IF EXISTS in VFP and run some tests but I'm not sure that you can relate results to Sql Server EXSISTS command. See Re: Not exists command Thread #646918 Message #646925.
