If you try to install MSDE over MS SQL Server, this will destroy your SQL Server instalation. But on SQLServer 2000 you have possibility to have more than one instamce on one computer. Actualy MSDE is cutted SQL Server - without Client Tools like Query analyzer, Enterprice manager, isql etc.
