Hi all,
in the Win XP MMC for COM+ I've seen a configuration possibility to run a COM+ application as a Windows Service. Configuring a COM+ application this way, it starts up when the OS is started. I've looked through the MSDN Library and learned, that this is new for COM+ 1.5 which is included in XP. The dialog in XP lets me configure a COM+ app. on a W2K server as a service, but it doesn't really do anything. So I think the whole thing is really new in XP.
And here's my first question: Is only the configuration interface new, or is the whole mechanism new in 1.5? I'm wondering, if this can be done with a COM+ app. running under COM+ 1.0 on a W2K server by API calls or any other method (without writing a standard Windows application running as a service and that exe then starts the COM+ app). Or may there be a COM+ 1.5 update for W2K?
I'm wondering about all this, since I've sometimes read that people are talking about running a COM+ app. as a service. Did they mean to start the COM+ app from a regular app. that runs a service? Or am I missing something here?
Thanks for any comments that make things a little clearer or just confirm that I'm thinking the right way.
TIA,
Armin
