I know what you mean, although, I didn't arrive until 1971, and there were still prune orchards then!

When I come to the Bay Area, I stay in Vallejo and Cupertino...both of which are so brightly lit...at least my friend in Cupertino lives on a dead end street, across from a park, w/a nice view of the hills in the east...nice to see the full moon come up. we sometimes drive up into the hills to escape the lights, but it's hard to get away from the valley glow.
