Tracy,
no problem on the delay and many, many thanks for the help. Your checklist already was a big help last night installing a new Win 2K server in place of Novell. I had never known how to remove the Novell client until your reply. Yes, if your grandparents were not born in the south then you aren't really "one of them."

John.

>Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I didn't get the email response until this morning for some reason. Think my email provider is holding onto my emails for some reason and waiting to forward them to me!

>Anyway, in addition to the checklist I sent earlier, the NIC duplex setting depends on the condition of the cabling of your network and any hubs, switches, or routers that are in between. What is the condition of the cabling? Do all of the hubs, switches, and routers support full duplex mode? If anything in between does not support FULL DUPLEX then you will experience more traffic collisions on the network and poor results. You could try FORCING the nic to FULL DUPLEX and if that does not resolve it, then FORCE the nic to HALF DUPLEX. Your best bet is to check the settings on the workstations that are NOT experiencing problems and emulate that as well as, if necessary, the same card manufacturer as those that are working correctly.

>UPDATE: I forgot to mention that while I have been living in the south for the last 11 years, I am originally from Wisconsin! That makes me a Yankee for all life (that's the rules!). :o)

>>Tracy,
>> I can't thank you enough for the checklist. My wife always says people from the south are the nicest ones. She's from Tenn. One question though. Which way do you recommend the duplex settings on the network cards be set? I assume Half?

>>>As far as Novell goes, here are troubleshooting tips for problems with workstations locking up connecting to Novell 4.x and 5.x servers, not achieving file locks, etc:
