Hi Christopher,

>What you did was significant Jim,
>Wouldn't it be nice if some Microsoft Marketing person took the same care as you did and contacted the Professor at University of Texas who considers Fox to be a personal database? http://www.utexas.edu/cc/database/datamodeling/rm/
>It sounds to me like a cost free opportunity for MS to better FoxPro perception at a high level. Getting the line changed to read "software such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and VisualFoxPro" would be a significant accomplishment that would cost MS nothing.
>I'll bet the professor would feel pretty honored that a representative of Microsoft took an interest in their site.

I would sooner see a little personal action taken by ourselves than the continuing crying and whining about what MS does for marketing this product. While action by Microsoft would have a greater impact than this feeble effort, I don't see it as a magic solution. Let's face it, Fox Software was purchased to get the technology. Get over it. It competes directly with MS's cash cows - Office/Access and VB/SQL Server. This will not change. If it were not for the very active (and vocal) community we have, I suspect it would have died 2 versions ago.

Speaking just for myself, 40% of my clients are the small Mom & Pop's and could care less what language their software is written in. The rest of them don't even see the apps - just run in the background and do their jobs munging data. FoxPro is still the best tool for this IMO. I am not going anywhere else to do this job.

With that said, I agree fully with your comments. NO COST - other than someone's time and a phone call or email to the party that needs the education. And coming from Microsoft vs this Hick in the Sticks would further the goal of ongoing upgrades and marketing bucks. BTW, I have purchased VFP7 in response to the plea. Do I use it? No. Will I use it? Probably.

Just my $.02 US.
