Foxbase+ for DOS in Windows XP
This is very much a beginner's question.
Many years ago I wrote an address application in Foxbase+ for DOS. It was a crude job but it fulfilled its purpose very well.
I have been running it since in a Windows DOS-box. But there are problems.
First, upgrading to faster computers my code lines
SET DEVICE TO PRINT
and
SET DEVICE TO SCREEN
which are central to creating address files no longer work because it seems that the software is too fast for these commands. I get around that by still using an old laptop with Windows 3.1. But this is somewhat awkward.
But I still can use the database and work on it (ASCII extended).
Second, when upgrading to Windows XP or Windows 2000 I can no longer start the program because of an error "not enough environment" which I have not yet found a way around (not with the compatibility box, anyway).
My job as a newspaper writer does not leave me the time to really dig into programming work again. I was never very good at it anyway, and I would need additional time to again unearth what I have forgotten. So, perhaps somebody knows the problems and can give me a tip or a pointer as to where find answers.
