For COM port use Microsoft Comm Control 6.0 (MSComm32.ocx). I don't know some specially functions in VB to use LPT; you can use standart printer commands using printer object, but device, connected to LPT, must behave as printer and simulate full printer protocol or errors/hangs will occur.
