PMFJI, I'm not sure if this will help but have you tried :

SET MESSAGE TO "   "

or

SET MESSAGE TO "Whatever text you want to display to prevent system messages in the status bar"

I think that this will prevent system messages from displaying in the status bar until you issue SET MESSAGE TO with no arguments. At least it seems to in VFP6.0 SP5.
