Good interface design is a fine skill!!!
As already mentioned font size 8 is OK - I find Verdana to be particularly readable - but you have to consider you end users eyes!!!
One thing I do is make use of the titlebar - you can have useful info there if it's applicable...
Other than that - grids are good for displaying many lines of data (but not so hot for data entry) and pageframes can be tricky but can enable you to present data in an ordered fashion...
Although it's subjective - maybe we could have an "Good Interface Design Show"???
