That's not exactly true. Look into Download section here, sortable grid sample by Vlad G. He has exactly the functionality, you're looking for.
In my applications I use two colors (red and sort of magenta for asc/desc orders, I like my way of implementing it, so I didn't switch to Vlad's, though his way is more professional, but also more complicated). Anyway, he already coded this class and put it here for free in Downloads section.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
