I attended UW in Madison for 7 years and echo the sentiments expressed here. Madison is a very nice and pretty city, but as a Texas boy, I can do without the bitter cold, ice, and long-term snow. However, the people who choose to live there sing extraordinary praises of the city, and I can see why. I do have a lot of fond memories of being there and vacationing in Northern Wisconsin (very beautiful). Milwaukee and Chicago are nearby and are added bonuses.

>That's why I remain down here in the south! I cannot imagine having to shovel snow every morning before driving to work anymore! Visits to Wisconsin are always in the spring/fall! :o)

>>Madison has been listed many times as one of the best places to live in the US. My aunt and uncle moved up there a couple years ago from the DC area and they love it. Personally, I can do without the winters.

>>>Madison has a beautiful downtown area like Portland, OR. It is also very active being a college town-much like Boulder, CO in atmosphere in my opinion.
