The table must have not been used excl in the VFP application and was in the 2.6 application would led me to beleive that the error was caused from going between the two. I am still relatively new to FoxPro (6 months of using) so I'm still getting used to it. I guess the only way to get around this is to change the program using the table excl to not use it excl in order for them to be running at the same time?

Yes, basically. If the fx2.6 app wasn't prepared for multiaccess it might be hard for them to set to non exclusive mode. However if you're sure you'd only read (say - select * from fox2xtable into crsView) and wouldn't harm its operation you might just workaround via config.fp(w) :

exclusive=off

It'd work only if 'exclusive' clause isn't used explicitly.
