David,
You might want to check out Beyond Compare
http://www.scootersoftware.com/index.htmlIt's an excellent tool that I use every day for the following tasks:
- compare directories, files
- synchronize PCs
- backup my notebook
- compare and edit files. Very handy to compare source code.
- compare tables (using a plug-in and a VFP wrapper)
You can easily delete orphaned files if you want. They have just released a new version. You can download an evaluation copy and play with it.
HTH
PS: Your address reminds me of my first visit to the US. I used to work for a company that had a manufacturing site in South Hadley. Quite funny as I'm sure not many people in the US know where South Hadley is ;-)

>Just bought a new WinXP laptop. I need to keep it synched up with my Win98 desktop (i.e. project files). I was using Laplink's very capable Clone Folder function with my old Laptop, but my version of Laplink is not XP compatible.

It also doesn't like to let you synch .dbf files (thought after an hour on the MS website, I found that workaround).
