Doing this from memory, since VFP's docs just say included for backword compatibility.

The READ command has a timeout clause. If there is no user interaction for a specified period of time, the read "falls out." You can then check some conditions to see if you need to shut down the app, or return to the current form.
If you are using the form designer, to put in the timeout clause you have to put a pre-generator directive in the setup code to generate the timeout clause.

Well that's about the best I can do from memory.
