>An ActiveX component is not necessarily a control. A control is something is sited on a container. There are times where you do need/want a container, nor make your component need a container. DirectX from Microsoft is an example of ActiveX DLLs (aka COM Objects). These are not controls, but you can instantiate objects, and you can access properties, events and methods. In VB you have complete access to these things. In Fox (so far) I don't see that you can have complete access to Non-Control objects.

What do you mean by "complete access"?

>I don't want to focus on MY situation here, because it's an example of what else exists out there, and will continue to grow.

Neither do I! I mean: I don't want to generate a "growing" situation here. But I found out that MS terminology and the way they use it in their docs is at least unclear. (I don't want to give clear examples from VFP's help to sustain this :)) This is why I keep asking. Also, because I'm not quite aware of what you can do and what you can't do in VB, nor of VB terminology. (I'm using VFP and VC++.)

>I'm just trying to get a small example of some functionality that should work in VFP. But I'm finding that VFP may be falling short in this area.

Maybe if you explain a little more what you want to do, me or somebody else here will be able to help you.

For example, it's not clear to me how far did you arrive with the last night code. Do you still have the OLE error? Can you post the code that doesn't work? The error message?
