Hi Joyce,
I found that normal performance of VFP applications run over WAN was unacceptable unless you write your application to work with the constraints of the WAN.
If you are trying to search, view and update information over a WAN, I would look into using something like VNC (
http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/).
If you are doing batch updating of records from remote clients, I would use OFFLINE VIEWS of the tables involved and perform a batch update.
