>We have Foxpro2.5b DOS applications in network. Our network has Novell servers and NT servers togather. Foxpro files and data are both in Novell servers. They are working fine. In future, Network people will only want to use NT and remove all Novell servers out.. Foxpro files and data will move to NT server.

Jim,

You will pay a price for staying with Fox Dos on NT servers. If your application has few data tables (20 or less), smaller data table size (10 megs or less ) and limited indexing (less than 5 per table and not compounded) the price is not high enough to worry about.

BUT, if you have lots of tables 50 - 100, larger data table size and lots of indexes, than NT (Applications Server for 32 bit apps) vs. Novell 4.x (file server for 16 bit apps) is a much slower server environment due to optimistic buffering and other server tunings done by NT.

To test this run VFP (which is optimized for 32 bit network servers) and then open up several of your large current databases and set some relationships on the NT server. Note the time it takes. Now, do the same thing using Fox for DOS on the same NT server.

We found things 3 to 4 times slower. But, as with all things in computers, slow is a relative term. Fox for DOS works and works well for big and small projects in Novell 4.x but it begins to slow on NT.

Your project would probably compile directly into VFP 7.o have you tried this as a possible solution.
