You could try it. What I was thinking was to take your hard disk out, and connect it to another computer. There are usually some extra cables around. The connection itself is not overwhelmingly difficult, but if you never did it, you may want to ask a friend for help.

There is one parallel cabel, grey, that copies data, and one, with four (?) cables of different colors, for power. Both are "polarized" - they can't be connected the wrong way.
