Tom,

Thanks for the ideas. PDF won't be an option for this one, so we'll just have to squeak by until printing becomes a priority for W3C

Many Thanks again,

Ed

>I do not yet have “the” answer to printing from a browser. However, I can quickly put together a list of inconsistencies between I.E. 5.0, 5,5 and 6.0 browsers when it comes to printing, and a few other things too. Netscape does not exist – if you know what I mean! Why make life even more impossible?

>One approach I have taken is to use ASP to define my reports. So far they are only one pagers though but are data driven. I need some time to see if I can print out a multi pager on demand. I think with enough time I can find the answer. I use absolute positioning for my web forms and reports as I have complex forms and have to get all the data to fit in a specific place. Font size is fixed to the pixel level so users have no "control" over what appears on the form. They want a report so they get a report. You cannot give users total control over the browser as some people demand. Your job is to create a report and not be all things to all people.

>Another problem I ran into was specific HP drivers (HP 2500 color printer as an example) which required increasing the size of text boxes slightly or the data would not print! What you see on the browser is not what you will see on your print out unless you create a separate report and pay attention to detail.

>As Bob pointed out PDF seems to be a good answer for many printing needs. It also gives the user more print options than are available through the browser.

>>Hello All,
>>
>>I'm hoping someone has experience with IE's TemplatePrinter or another call to force IE to resize a page to "shrink to fit" programmatically from a single web page.
>>
>>I have a simple-invoice type form that must render in HTML, but sometimes prints to a second page.. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

>>P.S. If anyone knows how to turn the header and footer off automatically too that would help; I guess IE considers that a security threat?
