Is there any way to send an email from VFP on a clients PC without knowing what email package the user may have? i.e a generic email routine?

MAPI is one alternative. But in order to send e-mail using MAPI, you must ensure that a MAPI complient e-mail client is installed on the client's machine. wwipstuff (check out www.west-wind.com) is another alternative.
