FWIW, I think it was underdocumented previously and that 7 plugs a hole. My guess is that early on, someone wrote code that was too forgiving and they never cleaned it up because they knew it would break existing code. With VFP 7, there was a need to fix it, so it was worth breaking code.
Also, fwiw, I searched in the VFP 6 Help for "VarList". It comes up in 5 places. In 4 of them, it doesn't address punctuation, but under the (pretty much useless) REGIONAL command, it says "VarList is a list of variables and arrays separated by commas."
