>Don't forget to teach them the 'Great American Work Ethic' which barely exists anylonger. Gone are the days when teenagers would do any labor for money. Everything is handed to them for free now so where is the incentive to work hard for rewards? Even in the North (like Wisconsin) where it was expected that you would work from dawn to dusk (hence the old 'factory mentality' or 'farmboy mentality' we all subscribed to) the bright young teenagers of today have no desire to do anything that is difficult. Life will be much harder for them in the future and it is not really their fault.

My parents instilled in me most of my work ethic by making me work for what I wanted. I really did not have to worry about them giving me what I needed. Too many people confuse the difference between want and need.

As a freshman in High School, I had a teacher who was determined to teach me that I did not know everything and to also teach me how to learn. He succeeded at both, and his class grade averages throughout his teaching career were about a D+. I had to work/study like a madman to manage a high C/low B average in his class. The funny thing is most students interested in advanced careers and college fought to get into his class even though they knew it would probably wreck their 4-year HS GPA. [The top three students in our graduating class avoided his class].
