Has something to do with the way record locking is handled using the 2^31 (2 GB) O/S limit. Do not expect this limit to be removed. MS will suggest anyone with this much data to use SQL Server. Another solution is to vertically split your data should it exceed the 2GB limit. There was an article a few years ago about the Eurotunnell that did just this to support 128 GB of VFP data.
