Is it possible that the new sheet you created has been filed with a color? Even white will cover up the grids. By default adding a sheet will not do that, but I thought it might be possible that you were adding it with a macro that also filled the cells, or possibly you over wrote your normal template. To check, select all cells, Format Menu, Cells, Then the Pattern tab. Select No fill.
