1) Easy solution: Change the Product Code/Upgrade Code CLSIDs in IS (they auto-change), first section in IS, do a new build and forget about the old stuff. The new build should install fine after that. That leaves a bunch of clutter from the broken install on the machine, which you can either forget about or go to step 2:

2) More thorough solution: Do #1, but first note the CLSID of the old Product/Upgrade codes. Delete all files associated with the app before the new install. Hack the registry and clean it out by the CLSID and text names. Then (or perhaps first and then again later) run a registry cleaner. Use Tweakui to get it out of the Add/Remove programs. I think that about covers a hazmat-level cleanup job.

I've been through that, too, and that's my somewhat kludgy but fairly effective solution for a badly broken MSI, using step 2. Step 1 also works fine, but unless you're getting a new machine soon, I don't like leaving all that mess around unless I have to (I mean I'll clean up my own serious everyday machines, but not worry about cleanup on test machines).
