VFP Office Automation and Microsoft Word. What's coming in Toledo?

Automation lets you drive one application from another. The Microsoft Office applications can be run from within Visual FoxPro to provide tools for reporting, presentations, graphing and more. In particular, Word can be automated, allowing you to create documents far more complex than those VFP's Report Designer can handle.

This session briefly introduces the tools needed to get started with
automation and to learn about automating the Office applications. From there, we'll look at the Word object model, and explore the most common tasks you're likely to want to automate.

Finally, we'll discuss some of the features coming in Toledo, the next
version of Visual FoxPro.

Tamar E. Granor, Ph.D., has developed and enhanced numerous FoxPro and Visual FoxPro applications. She currently focuses on working with other developers through consulting and subcontracting. Tamar served as Editor of FoxPro Advisor magazine from 1994 to 2000. She is currently the magazine's Technical Editor and co-author of the popular Advisor Answers column.

Tamar is co-author of the Hacker's Guide to Visual FoxPro 7.0 (and its award-winning predecessor), What's New in Visual FoxPro 7.0, and Microsoft Office Automation with Visual FoxPro. Tamar is a Microsoft Certified Professional and a Microsoft Support Most Valuable Professional. She speaks frequently about Visual FoxPro at conferences and user groups, including every FoxPro DevCon since 1993.
