Well, I found out that if the table or tables in the dataenvironment have been opened EXCLUSIVELY somewhere else, then Error 2005 occurs!

Is this what Error 2005 is? If so, how could I trap it?

>No other clue than to SET STEP ON in dataenvironment.beforeopentables, and then wait for the bang. Or, alternately, On Error Suspend, then fire up the debugger and find the offending line. Though, the line may well be the DO FORM, which wouldn't be much help.
