When the list gets focus and I select an item from the dropdown list, when the dropdown list closes (after selection), the closed list box is deep blue and the selected item cannot be seen in the closed dropdown list (until you leave the list).

By any chance, is the RowSourceType for your combo either 2-Alias or 6-Fields? And is it bound to an integer surrogate key in the grid's RecordSource?

Try changing the RowSourceType to something other than 2-Alias or 6-Fields.
