>I do not know who it was, but I was lead to believe that you could not use SDT with VPM.
Hi Cecil,
I use SDT along with VPM, and I get to use its primary strengths. At design time, I do all of my structure changes through SDT. This automatically keeps my local views in sync as well. Of course, SDT is used to apply those structure changes to clients at runtime. I also use the Reindex, Pack, and Repair features of SDT.
Initially, I was worried about maintaining two data dictionaries, but it isn't a problem. I wrote a little routine to sync up the field captions, only because I wanted to see them in the DBC and SDT. That's it.
SDT also provides a mini-framework for accessing data, opening tables, etc. I don't use these features because VPM provides all data handling functionality. I'm not sure how other frameworks handle this.
SDT is an excellent tool. Doug has done a great job of making sure it has features that will work with all frameworks, including VPM. For more specific info, search for "SDT" and "Stonefield" on the ProMatrix newsgroups.
