I would suggest the Windows CryptoAPI. This gives you professional-level encryption routines. Much stronger than the simple transposition or XOR algorithms that you normally find around the web.

If you have VFP 7.0, there is a class in the FFC under Utilities (_crypt.vcx) that makes it very easy to use.
