Thanks for your reply. I have 'Recover' and SDT myself. The guy with the problems has Foxfix, but I don't think any of them were designed to handle this one!

Apparently it's now stable running XP against Windows 2000, but the problems remains to determine the cause.

That program might be able to fix this problem. Also, the Abri people will work as consultants and they may be able to save this data if that is the imperative.
