If the CHR(5)'s are just there to cause a delay, can't you replace them with a delay in the VFP code?

SET PRINTER TO LPT
??? CHR(27) + CHR(112) + CHR(0)
INKEY(0.5)  && Half-second delay
SET PRINTER TO

I don't know if that will help, but it's one of the first things that I would try.
