Couldn't you just turn escape off for the duration of the query. ie SET ESCAPE OFF

The problem is that if I run a big query on that program and presses the ESCAPE key, then the "INTERRUPTED" message is coming with CANCEL, SUSPEND and IGNORE options and if you cancel, you can WINDOW and VIEW the raw table and then I miss the whole idea of this excercise. I have tried ON ESCAPE, ON KEY LABEL ESC to quit and it refuses to work. I have tried ON ERROR and ON READERROR to shoot a function to quit and it does not want to work as well.
