If you can make sound cost projection having the same solution(s)
done under different platform(s) I am sure that he will reconsider ...
Second big thing to think of is development/implementation time and viability. If you have 2-3 years time ,budget overloaded with money
and no preassure from operation side then why not - let him to go
this way ,at the it will be great experience for YOU

If not - then stick with good old fox...
We are running here one of largest container feeder operations in Meditaranian sea - having it all in VFP!
VFP is as good as you make it be.
