Best way to do this is find some web sites you like, do a screen capture, and grab the colors off the image. Use good examples, and you'll get a better looking product.
You can also use 'view source' and copy and past that HTML text into FrontPage, DreamWeaver or whatever HTML editor you use - but that doesn't grab the properties of any CSS files used on the site. The CSS files often contain the color and font information you're interested in (there's a lot of CSS magic here on the UT).

Of course, you should keep in mind the browser and machine limitations of the machines viewing your site. Switch to lower color depths and lower resolutions to see what some people will see.
