I'm not really sure if that would make sense. Some people might prefer to have a faster variant that's specific to a certain database. IMO the Fox Team wouldn't have another possibility than doing a SELECT COUNT() internally to deal with all databases. AFAIK there is no built-in functionality in the ODBC API that would support the kind of "seek" you would like to have (but I'm not really sure about that).
