Hi Bob,
I did some more work on it. I now have a parent and child form with a persistent relationship (a constraint on a foreign key in the child table that references into a primary key in the parent table.) I created the foreign key constraint with an alter table command and postgres automatically create the triggers need to enforce referential integrity. All of this was done with a single command from the postgres input prompt. Also, I have added serialized transactions with a commit on successful updates or a rollback if any transaction fails. The VFP7 front-end app is not as generic as it was, but it would still be very helpful to anyone wanting to know how to do client/server using SQL pass through. This evening I was looking into replication. Its not an official part of postgres, but it appear to be very functional and complete. All the replication stuff is in the /usr/lib/pgsql/contrib/rserv directory under RedHat Linux 7.3. If you can find time, you might take a look at my VFP front-end client app. Any suggestions are welcome.
I took the time to explore Postgres because it might be helpful to me later. I received a CPE course today, "Dealing with the IRS", which will give me 20 hours of CPE to go with the 22 hours I already have, so I will have the 40 hours of CPE required by the Texas State Board of Accountancy to renew my CPA license for another year. Then I need to get my tax retrun filed. Hopefully, then I can get back to Visual FoxPro and my accounting application.
