I don't know for sure answer, but it is good question!!!

Seriously, I think that solution lies in the way you use the INDEX command. Read documentation on that command. It will show you that there are more than one kind of index file. You are using command in such a manner as to create 'structural' index. This is by using that 'OF' syntax at end. If you leave that off, then I believe you create a more normal index type and it will work.

I think that the 'structural' index types are from Foxpro of old.
