Matieralistic atheists, or any other kind, accept their POV by faith, even if they don't realize and/or admit it. How? Simply because as they walk backwards through their syllogistic trees they arrive sooner or later at foundational axioms, statements accepted as true because they 'seem reasonable', but which cannot be proven. If the foundation is accepted by faith the entire tree is based on faith. With the Einstein Metric it is the cosmological constant. Ptolemey's Geocentric theories 'explained' all important observable facts about the visible heavens and reigned for hundreds of years. Unexplained 'facts' were not important, or were not 'facts'. Arostotle's views explained the physical world in much the same manner, and reigned for over 1,000 years. Ad Hoc adjustments to both theories abounded. As more and more observations were made of the earth and heavens the number and quality of unexplainable facts become too numerous to ignore. Move forward to the present era. After almost 100 years folks are begining to question the Einstein Metric. The Standard Model is under assault from many quarters, especially with regard to discoveries relating to neutrinos. In the biological world researchers with excellent credentials are challanging the status quo with unanswered data, the ridicule and ad hoc responses not withstanding.
