Thank you for your response. I have a few more questions.

1) How do I make sure messenger service is running on the computers so that they can receive messages?
2) When issuing the following command at the dos prompt, I get an error -

C:\windows\system32> net send maureen Hello

Error message is

The command SEND is unknown. For a list of valid commands, type NET HELP at the command prompt.
For help type NET /? at the command prompt
