Historically, the nice thing about South American democracy is that after the votes are counted anything can happen. A barracks revolt, junta, or any action the military wishes to impose are always waiting.
In our country we do not worry about the military making the decisions about who will hold office. Rather we are concerned about the right to vote but not having the vote count.
Democracy has many flavors and each is interesting. :)
