What version of VFP are you using?
If you are using VFP7, DATE format defaults to your system setting. Make sure your computer's settings are correct in Regional Options.
In older versions of VFP, SET DATE defaulted to American and SET SYSFORMATS defaulted to off. SET SYSFORMATS ON solves many of these irritating localisation issues.
You might include SET SYSFORMATS in your Form baseclass, alternatively update to VFP7 where it appears to be fixed.

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
