I don't know if SP5 would help, but I would certainly be trying it, just in case. I don't know about 7 either.

What puzzles me is that you say it shows the name of the file instead, rather than simply showing no picture at all. When it does this, does it do it to all records on the same report? Or it only some of the pictures on the report? If the user turns right around and reprints the report, will it print it correctly the next time?

I assume the pictures are residing on a network file server. What OS is running on the file server?
