John,
I had a problem similar in WinNT, the driver for my LQ570+ wouldn't allow me to enter a custom paper size. So I used the Epson Compatible 24 pin driver. which allowed me to enter a custom paper size (3.5 x 1) and named it Labels. It then appeared in the list of available paper sizes.
Thanks
Jon
