This must be done by the system administrator of the Unix system.

Log in as root.
Enter sysadmsh.
Select "System," "Configure," "Kernel," "Parameters."
Change the value of "nfile" to at least "400" or a number higher than the current value if the current value is already 400 or higher.
If SCO, then set NINODE to the same value as nfile.

Overview:

You can calculate the number of open files required by counting the number of files that all programs will open at any one time. However, keep in mind that the system uses a lot of files just to keep track of what it is doing, so start with a MINIMUM of 100 for the system. Then add the number the applications need. Remember, this includes one for each program loaded as well as one for each file the programs use. You are calculating system-wide, so do not count the same file more than once, no matter how many programs are using it.
