I will have to check on the port assignment. So, we can set that to some other number and then connect directly over IP. Is that secure though? Short of guessing the port number, could someone detect that SQL Server is available over IP?

I'll have to look into VPN... don't know much about that either. :)



Does the SQL Server have a static IP? What port has the SQL Server been configured for? I hope it's not the default 1433.

With a static IP, you should just be able to use the IP and port in your connection string. For more security, you might look at implementing a VPN between the two sites.
