I might be off here, but when I create tables - without a database, the field names get truncated. But as soon as I dynamically create a database to put them in, and then create a nice cursor (sql remote cursor) and then copy the data into dbc related tables, the field names are correct.
What I found I guess is
Cursors in VFP allow for large field names
Free tables dont
tables in a database allow for large field names....

So I ramble a bit, is your table a free table, cursor, or a table in a cursor.?

Maybe thats a place to start.
