It's hard to say because you didn't tell much. First, what suffixes and prefixes did you include? All Code39 is required, is start and stop character which for most barcode fonts is "*" (star) but could be different for some fonts. For example, *TEST3OF9*. Second, the size of the font on report should be between 14 and 20 pt's. The best is to find existing readable barcode and make yours approximately the same size.
