Yes, I guess it IS a young person's game. When I get a dialogue that says 'must be installed to operate properly" (as I did a while back with a Netscape update) and I don't have/want what they need I stop and revert to IE. My son, on the other hand, siad he just cancelled out and all was fine regardless! It just doesn't occur to me to even try something like that when the message is so explicit.

A friend has the tiniest Sony - the one with the built-in camera and 'half' a screen - that came with WinME installed. He got the hankering to update it to XP-Home, so he went to the Sony site. Found the instructions alright - 8 detailed pages or so with something like 30+ steps including de-installs, downloads, reinstalls, etc. He (wisely) decided to leave well enough alone.

I had your same 'problem' with the network setup. I guess they tried to make it idiot-proof and ended up leaving it to our imagination ANYWAY!!!

My quest continues...

cheers

>I just bought my wife a new notebook (tiny Sony from Best Buys, I'm about to test what others have said about mail-in rebates!). I took delivery yesterday.

>It came with XP Home. Thankfully it was all pre-configured for the notebook. However setting up a dlink wireless card was just a *nightmare". Network Bridges appeared and insisted on interfering no matter how many times I deleted. Internet options seemed to be "connect directly and let others connect via this PC" or "connect via another PC" or "dial up". How about Cable via wireless to a Router? Eventually I got it going at 1am last night. Then I started on the new Lexmark Printer/Scanner. I've not had to endure lockups on my Dell for many a month, you can imagine my disappointment when everything locked up repeatedly.
